Are social network sites taking away our privacy or is it idiots that are using them? I’m not talking about the “Big Brother” type of privacy where all your personal information is shared without your permission or knowledge. I’m talking about the sharing of personal information by users on PURPOSE.
Use to be a fight between a husband and wife were just that, between the husband and wife and possibly a close friend. Now it’s blasted all over your Facebook wall. You want everyone to know he’s an ass or she’s a bitch. You have a fight with your mother and everyone knows she’s a bitch and you cut her out of your life.
The problem is, you’re page is not set to private and you’re now sharing it with family, friends, friends of friends and strangers. Then you have the nerve to get upset that people “talk” about what you posted because it’s nobody’s business. Wait, was what you just posted on the World Wide Web meant to be private, between you and how many thousands of people?
I guess everyone has their own definition of private. To me it’s not to be shared with ANYONE. It will not be posted on my Facebook wall. If I want to share it with a friend it goes to email, private message, phone call or face to face.
So, to answer my initial question it’s the idiots that don’t know how to use social network sites that are responsible for their own lack of privacy.
