I’m out of shape and inactive and hate what it’s doing to me. To top it off I’ve got Osteoarthritis and was diagnosed a couple of years ago with Rheumatoid Arthritis. All of this makes me sore and stiff and I know that exercise would help but lack of motivation plays a big part in not getting off my duff and doing anything about it.
About a year ago Don bought me a Nintendo Wii and I love it. I’m not much into gaming but that thing is fun and I enjoyed the bowling and tennis even though I sometimes do it while sitting in a chair. When I saw the EA Sports Active I knew I wanted to try it and the people at EA Sports were willing to send me the EA Sports Active More Workouts to review.
The first thing I had to do was set up my personal profile. You choose your body type, vital statistics and activity level. After that I created my own workout.
The EA Sports Active More Workouts isn’t tedious and doesn’t make you think you’re exercising, just having fun. You can pick and choose the activities you want to do and the level you want to do them at. There are some that are actual exercises like shoulder presses and bicep curls and step aerobics but I chose the fun activities. Those are water skiing, obstacle course, paddle surfing, sprint and skipping. I even did the stride jumps and to even things out I did do the bicep curls and a few lower body workouts . Of course I didn’t forget the warm-up and cool-down exercises.
The activity level I chose was easy and based on my profile my workout was only 20 minutes long. When doing the activities it keeps track of how many reps or obstacles you get and also the calories burned. It was a rush seeing the calories adding up and I knew I was doing something right. The activities were a bit difficult for someone that’s not use to doing anything but I persevered and made it to the end and I really felt like I’d accomplished something positive.
The next day I realized I was a bit achy but not the usual joint hurting arthritis type of hurt but more muscular and it finally hit me I’d exercised the day before. This ache wasn’t the type of ache I use to feel after a day at the gym (yes I did have a membership to Bally’s years ago and Curves where I only went twice). This ache was more subtle and I was still able to function. The next day when I went through my workout I found I got a bit tired or sore with some of the leg activities so I alternated standing and sitting but still kept my legs moving. I felt as long as I was moving something I was burning some calories and keeping my heart rate up.
You set your workout schedule for the days of the week you plan on doing the activities and make sure to add a couple days of rest, don’t want to overdo it. I’m not brave enough to enter the 6 week challenge yet but after I build my endurance up and keep to the schedule I set for myself I may tackle that.
EA Sports Active More Workouts can be used as an addition to EA Sports Active Personal Trainer but if you don’t already have EA Sports Active Personal Trainer which comes with the resistance bands and leg straps you can purchase them separately in an activity pack. You can also use the Wii balance board if you have one for some of the activities but that’s an option not a necessity.
