Even though this is a partnered post with SmartBuyGlasses the story, opinions and views are all my own
You know how they say life catches up with you? Well, life is catching up with me big time. First I’ve had what I term “bed knees” since I was in my 30’s. I always suspected I had arthritis but would never admit it to myself or say it out loud because that’s an old people’s disease and I wasn’t old. When I had trouble getting out of a chair or had difficulty walking those first few steps after sitting for so long I’d laugh and say I must have twisted something.
Then I realized I was out of shape and wasn’t eating or exercising but I’d always start tomorrow. Well, tomorrow never came.
In my 50’s I was told I had diabetes and that led me to a retina specialist who said no damage from the diabetes but there was suspected glaucoma which led me to a glaucoma specialist who said I have the beginnings of cataracts.
OH MY GOD!!! WHEN DID I BECOME THAT OLD PERSON
Then it hit me, everyone gets older and that can’t be prevented but some things COULD have been. The arthritis would have most likely still been there but recovery from knee replacement might not have been as tough if I’d maintained a healthy weight and exercised. Now I wish I’d have stuck with the ballet my mom forced me to go to when I was little.
The diabetes might have happened since my mom had it BUT it might not have happened as early or might not have happened at all if I’d maintained a healthy weight and exercised.
Notice a pattern here.
One thing a healthy weight and exercise probably couldn’t have prevented was my eyes. Those cataracts though might have been prevented if I’d worn sunglasses when I was younger and I’m talking about the good 100% UV blocking glasses. You see, the sun is not only damaging to your skin but can also lead to cataracts but we didn’t know that back then and I never liked to wear glasses much less sunglasses when I was younger. What teenager wants to be seen wearing sunglasses. In my 20’s and 30’s I hardly wore them but when I got into marketing for a skilled nursing facility in Chicago and would have to drive all over, from the south side to the north side to downtown and a lot of that was driving along Lake Michigan. Talk about blinding glare. That’s when I started wearing sunglasses religiously but still had problems with the glare or I didn’t take care of them and I’d lose them or scratch them. That is until I decided to spend more than $10 and get a good pair of sunglasses and I hit upon my favorite designer, Maui Jim. The first time I wore those while working I had no glare off the water, I could actually see where I was driving and I took care of them. I mean if I was going to spend more than pocket change on some sunglasses I was going to treasure them and treat them like gold.
This is when the folks at SmartBuyGlasses asked if I’d take a look at their selection and I can honestly say I’m impressed. First I was looking for sunglasses and wanting my favorite Maui Jim and I found them. Then I read that at SmartBuyGlasses I can get them with my prescription for when I’m not wearing my contacts.
