With Don and I both from the Midwest we both love BBQ add to that Don’s from Kansas City and you have a BBQ snob. It’s no secret that we both feel KC Masterpiece is the best BBQ sauce you can buy in the retail market and we have been known to go into a BBQ place in our beautiful state of Alabama carrying our own bottle of KC Masterpiece.
When I make ribs at home it’s the rub and prep before placing on the grill or under the broiler that makes the difference. My recipe takes advance planning but not much fuss or work at all.
Ingredients for BBQ Ribs
Ribs in crockpot with onions and cola
Delicious ribs ready to eat
3 1/2 lbs ribs. (boneless country or pork loin back ribs)
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
3 tablespoons liquid smoke
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 medium onion, sliced
1/2 cup cola (diet or regular)
1 cup barbecue sauce (for best flavor use KC Masterpiece)
*Day 1 or the day before:
Mix brown sugar, salt, pepper, liquid smoke and garlic; rub mixture into ribs.
Cut ribs into 4-inch pieces. (no need to cut if using boneless country ribs)
Place ribs in a covered container and refrigerate overnight
The day of cooking:
Spray inside of 4-5 qt crockpot with cooking spray
Layer ribs and onion in slow cooker.
Pour cola over ribs.
3Cover and cook on low heat setting 5-6 hours or until tender.
Remove ribs from crockpot
Drain and discard liquid.
Heat grill (gas or coals) or preheat broiler. Place ribs on grill or broiler pan and brush with 1/2 cup BBQ sauce. Grill about 7-8 minutes or broil about 5 minutes. Turn and brush with remaining BBQ sauce. Continue grilling another 5-6 minutes or broil for 5.
When serving can add extra BBQ sauce as desired.
*Marinating in rub overnight allows for a more intense smoky flavor which makes the ribs delicious.
**NOTE: When I’m making these for a large crowd I will start a few days earlier and have all the ribs cooked a few days before grilling. Just store in an airtight container or on a baking pan or cookie sheet and cover tightly with foil. Adjust grilling/broiling time since ribs will either be cold or room temp before starting.
The ingredients for this recipe were purchased by me. All opinions about KC Masterpiece are my own and not influenced in any way except by the great taste of the sauce. I was not compensated in any way for this post.
