Another night of great performances on American Idol tonight. Songs from the 21st Century. To be honest I don’t listen to the newer popular music, I’m an oldies fan but also like country and some jazz.
First I have to say that group number with those who were already voted off was, in my opinion, terrible. They sounded off key and just didn’t sign well together at all. Now I know why they were voted off already.
Scotty sang Swingin which they gave credit to LeAnn Rimes who did record it in 2010 but why not give credit to the original artist and co-writer John Anderson who recorded it in 1983 and again in 1994. I don’t know why the judges dissed Scotty the way they did. He’s good no matter what he sings
James sang Uprising by Muse. What can I say, James is a complete package and he owns the stage when he sings. The drums and his costume all added to his vision and brought the song to life. He was great as always.
Haley performed Rolling in the Deep by Adele and I loved it. The song suited her voice and style perfectly.
Jacob sang Dance With My Father by Luther Van Dross. I don’t know what to say. Jacob has a great voice but if a song makes you emotional enough that you cry during rehearsals then maybe it’s not the song for you. I sympathize with him that he lost his father when he was little and the song might tug at your heart but in a singing competition that doesn’t belong. Maybe it’s my dislike for Jacob coming through but I honestly feel it’s the same as when they went on and on every week about Danny Gokey’s wife dying. That got old after a while and Jacob’s emotions and crying with his performances whether it’s during a rehearsal or after an audition just rubs me the wrong way. As I said, Jacob is a good singer and I thought this was one of his better performances though not as good as last week but he belongs in front of a church choir.
Casey sang Harder to Breathe by Maroon 5. He picked a great song and I loved the end when he snuck that kiss in on J Lo. He surprised not only Jennifer but also Randy and Steven. We can’t say he rendered Steven speechless though but we didn’t really get to hear what he was saying due to the censors. As Casey said, he not only got to kiss Jennifer but he got Steven to swear and boy did he ever.
Stefano sang Closer by Ne-Yo. It was one of Stefano’s better performances. It didn’t knock my socks off but he does deserve to stay another week.
Lauren was last with Born To Fly by Sara Evans. I love Lauren and even though it wasn’t one of her best performances she still impressed me.
I know this is going to be a tough week deciding who should go home but why cast your vote in the sidebar and we’ll see how well we do tomorrow night
