Only a few more weeks to go to find out who’s going to win the title of American Idol. I’ve still got my favorite but it’s getting harder and harder to keep it at just one.
Tonight the theme was Carole King. I knew she was a songwriter as well as singer but didn’t know she wrote so many of the songs I grew up with. The performers sang individually and in duets which I do enjoy much more than those group numbers of years past.
Jacob went with Oh No Not My Baby. I’m sorry and I realize the other contestants were teasing him when they called him a Diva last week but he is. The way he stands, the way he moves and the way he sings is just so, divaish. His singing tonight was different for him and I thought he did a good job but the scatting and dancing didn’t do much for me. I also want to know what was up with his outfit? The blue plaid jacket, a different shad of blue cardigan, yellow shirt and that bow tie.
Lauren sang Where You Lead which I felt she did beautifully. She had a new confidence with in her performance and pushed past her insecurity and succeeded. She hit the high note she’s been afraid of trying.
Scotty went with You’ve Got a Friend. This was a change for Scotty as it was slower and softer than anything he’s done before. He sang in a higher octave and really showed us that he can sing anything with ease.
James sang Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow. James, just like Scotty did something different and it really paid off. I loved the a cappella beginning and his soft voice. When the instrumentals started he kept the softness and sang with his heart. James has a vision for the songs he performs and he makes those visions reality. I could see him both creating the music for himself and for others and being successful at both.
As Randy said for both James and Scotty… They turned the other cheek and gave us performances that were nothing like their other ones.
Casey went with Hi De Ho. This was a great song and arrangement for Casey. I loved the jazz feel of it and the way he worked the stage but I don’t see it being too popular with the voters. He might be in trouble tonight.
Haley performed Beautiful. It was a solid performance and a good song for Haley but I felt it was a bit boring. That may be due to her being the last single performance or that there were many before that were great but it didn’t do much for me.
Haley and Casey with I Feel the Earth Move. They’re great together and harmonize well. They seemed to be having fun with their performance and I think Carole King is a great choice for Haley’s voice.
Lauren and Scotty sang Up on the Roof. We all know I think they’re 2 of the best singers and they’re great performing together but Lauren sounded like she was yelling the words during her solo’s.
James and Jacob went with I’m Into Something Good. They had a lot of fun with that one and I loved the way they got Jennifer involved. This was the highlight of the duets.
I know it’s getting harder to pick one to go home but give it a try and cast your vote in the poll on the sidebar.
