Mother of the Bride Dresses Have Come a Long Way

The folks at JJs House wanted me to talk to you about Prom Dresses but I felt boxed in with that topic plus I’ve done that before.  I mean I’ve shown you my favorite styles in Wedding and Homecoming dresses but those are “once in a lifetime” dresses.  I’ve even written about that much needed LBD.  What if you’re a guest at the wedding or the Mother of the Bride (multiple daughters does not make this a “once in a lifetime” occasion) or going to your junior/senior prom.  You spend a lot of money on a dress you only wear once and then it hangs in your closet in a bag collecting dust.

When I was younger and a guest at a wedding the fashion was to wear a floor length dress and a lot of my friends looked for dresses that had the possibility of being cut down to tea length or shorter.  Now that fashion has changed and dresses of any length are accepted why not look for something that can go to that wedding, prom or even “mother of the bride” that can also go to dinner at the expensive restaurant or captain’s dinner on that long awaited cruise.  Maybe that garden party you’re going to next weekend.

Well,  in looking at the collection at JJ’s House I found many dresses that fit the multi-use category perfectly and they’re all ones that I’d love to wear.

Check out these Mother of the Bride dresses.  Not those dowdy, frumpy things that were popular in the 80′s.  I can see these going from the receiving line to dinner at Ruth’s Chris.

Mother of the Bride

These bring to mind the dress my cousin’s mother-in-law wore to her wedding.  She had a beautiful, above the knee teal dress and pumps to match.  When the reception started she still had that dress but changed into her teal cowboy boots and really kicked up her heals.  Maybe things were different for mother of the groom.

Then we’ve got these bridesmaid dresses that I can see doubling as a prom dress.

Brides Maid Dresses

What about these homecoming dresses that could be worn to that garden party.

Homecoming Dresses

This is one of my favorite mother of the bride dresses and it might be the hairstyle but couldn’t you see Audrey Hepburn or Sophia Loren in this.

I do need to tell you that I didn’t pick out all of the above dresses, Don was behind me giving his input on his favorites.  Doesn’t that man have great taste.

  1. Some of these are really nice but I also agree that the style of dresses have changed. When I got married, my mom wore a floor length dress and any shorter was not even considered. That just goes with the change in times. But I could really see myself wearing one of those.
